Prince Quelna'Amanth Varine is a consummate gentleman, tall and beautiful, cultured, sophisticated, and as skilled with a sword as with his words. Per his reputation, he is an excellent orator, capable of moving crowds to tears with his gentle words, yet in person, he seems quiet, almost diffident. It is said that he is over fifty years old, but his body does not look a day over twenty. What keen drives him is unknown, but he moves with strength and purpose both on the battlefield, and in politics.
Prince Amanth is a controversial figure in his homeland. His devotion to Quienenas is matched only by his willingness to speak his mind, regardless of whether his words are popular or not. Representing the famous university-city of Vareenilas in political circles in Qaltitar, his consistent remonstrances toward his peers for their treatment of their peasants and slaves has made him unpopular among the ruling elite. His detractors say that he has been too long among the wild-eyed liberal students of his home city. Rumor holds that if it weren't for his clear personal devotion to the Emperor, he--and his family--may have lost their standing long before now.
In many ways, Amanth represents the best that Quienenas has to offer. He embodies the grace, culture and beauty of their aristocracy, without the arrogance that so typically marks Quienni princes. His appearance is strikingly beautiful. His is much renowned for several volumes of poetry that he has released. His long, silken hair, high cheekbones, and long-lashed eyes, eyes that are both wise and lively, are the subject of many a poem and work of art. If the bards are to be believed, an entire generation of young women in Vareena weep themselves to sleep every night because Prince Amanth is already married.
Prince Amanth Varine is the only Quienni notable attending the tourney, though he is accompanied by a small army of servants, scribes and bodyguards.
